Good afternoon Kind Friends! I figured today would be the perfect day to teach you about something I’ve been very passionate about recently, conserving water.
Why should you learn how to shorten your water time and use less water? Well, did you know that if you cut down your shower time by one minute you can save an average of 1,000 gallons of water a year? That number really startled me so I’ve been trying to do my part in helping the environment by minimizing my shower time.
I know that this idea doesn’t work for everyone but give it a try if you can. Like I said, one minute = 1,000 gallons of water in a year! So every little bit helps.
Time how long you are in the shower for a few days to see your average time. For me I spent an average of 15 minutes showering. That is a darn long time.
Then try to slowly decrease that time. I put together a music playlist that was about 12 minutes long (about four songs) and used that as cues when I’m in the shower. When the song switched I would start to hurry up a little more. After a few days I realized I was finished in the shower before the four songs were done! So I decreased my shower time to a playlist of three songs for a few days.
I don’t think I’ll be able to minimize it to only one song but I am pretty excited that I’ve gone down to being able to complete my shower in seven minutes instead of 15. Seven minutes feels like the optimum time for me, I get everything done without unnecessarily scolding my skin in hot water. Sure, hot water is relaxing but it dries out your poor skin.
By cutting down my shower from 15 to seven minutes I am able to save an estimated 8,000 gallons of water a year!

Remember every little bit helps. If you can’t lower your shower time then try simply turning off the shower when you are shaving. That is a minute right there!
