I think the favorite thing about my blog and my videos is that they are little memory boxes for me to look back to. I have grown so much in these past five years and that growth is immortalized in this space.
But even with my personal posts on RebeccaKelsey.com, there are pieces of my life that I forget to capture. Little things that I forget to record. I feel the weight of those missing memories every now and again.
Because I wanted to remember every detail of my November wedding, one of my goals for April was to finish my diary wedding album. The album I used had little spaces next to each photo to write details and dates, so I used that space to make a running diary of my wedding. The album was fairly large so I put together photos from every wedding event, from my dress fitting to my honeymoon. I filled every space I could, even mentioning how Chris had impulsively shaved his beard a few weeks before the wedding and regretted it immediately.
My favorite part about our wedding wasn’t the ceremony itself, it was all of the tiny moments like Chris’ beard and the fact that me and the bridesmaids had to hide parked behind a dumpster when we arrived because Chris and his groomsmen were running late and got to the parking lot seconds before us.
One of my upcoming goals is to create a home diary/album sharing our journey to becoming homeowners. I want to remember how difficult it was to get our first place and how cute our starter furniture was. I want to write down how all of our friends and family came over the first day to help us pack, how we woke up the next day at 6 AM — so excited to start our first full day in our new home, and even better that I slid down our stairs (I’ve always wanted stairs) on a packing box and fell on my butt. I don’t think those are the moments I’d remember 10 years down the road.
These little moments make the big ones more special, you have to write them down (or vlog them) to keep them fresh and with you forever.
