I’ve been really into wearing a bolder lip lately, especially since I’ve cut my hair to a little above my shoulders. When I saw the Milani Power Lip Lasting Gloss Stain in Publix for $6.49, I knew it would be a fun product to review.
The color I purchased was the #3 Raspberry Tart. It is a berry mauve color, the brand is cruelty-free, and this lip product itself is vegan. What is there not to like?
Milani’s website lists eight colors available for this product range but I only saw four available at my local Publix. I didn’t find them on Ulta.com but all eight colors are available on Walgreens.com. If you’d like to see swatches of the other colors available, Makeup and Beauty Blog has some great photos in her Milani Power Lip Review.
This product is advertised to be a gloss and a stain. Through using it I came to find that it was more of a long wearing lip gloss than a stain. Through my other experiences, I’ve come to see lip stains as products able to last through eating without reapplication. The Milani Power Lip did last through drinking and stayed pigmented for four hours but as soon as I started to eat the color disappeared. Since I’m not willing to go four hours without eating (yum, food) I don’t know how long it would have lasted if I hadn’t eaten.
I had hoped that there would still be some berry color left on my lips after my delicious pizza but all that was left was a subtle pink that honestly looked better on camera than in person.
If you want a long wearing lip gloss that you don’t mind reapplying after meals, it’s a great product. But if you really want a stain, I don’t think the color lasts well enough after the gloss layer disappears.
